Ok, this is meant as the semi-bitter post for all the huge mountain of interested parties reading these pages. What you pay is what you get. There is no such thing as a free meal. What you sow is what you reap. Canned Heat started as an idea and a big heap of energy. And then the energy went out the window and the idea is not enough. So at one point being stressed out and tired I just said, I've done my part, now it is somebody else's turn. I've done my share of crap tbh. Mistakes, missed opportunities, bad ideas, I've done them all, but until the bitter end I put in all I had. Either you do the work or get the fuck out. And I got the fuck out, since I wasn't gonna do the work anymore. And then, the pickup was sheit. We were just gliding on with whatever momentum was there to start with, and I had too little energy to step back in and neither was I the one to do it, since me doing that would undermine whatever authority Max needed. So I was stuck at watching it go over and out.
I'm going to stand by my conviction that all should go where they feel good. Where they feel appreciated and where they have the most fun. Canned Heat was only what people made of it, the GM can only be the motor and not the boat. I liked to boat, I disliked the motor for a while.
For my part I've gone to a guild with an idea which is - progress? What does that mean?. People enjoying progress would be better, if a bit superfluous. I like just people enjoying, but that was CH and that didn't end well, so what do I know... But I like one part much - energy of the GM. There is this a nice GM, and she is having a lot of problems to fix and weird thing - she is trying hard to fix them. Now the way she is going about it is different than what I would have done - but that isn't even the point - the point is I see someone putting a lot of energy into making a guild work, and that is something I will subscribe to. Because with energy+nice person+dialogue, the sky is the limit.
So right now, even with a non-ideal situation, far from perfect new guild, I am happy with the current situation. Canned Heat - went to Shameless on Ravencrest and it could be worse. Shameless player base is a bit CH-ish, with a bit of self glorification, generally well-meaning atmosphere and alting across the board. What is missing is a proper amount of self ridicule to go along with self glorification.
I am still not sure if not moving to Auch was the best decision. I hate the split of people that it provoked. I like the new people I've met because of it. Tbh it would be hard to avoid a sort of splitting at any rate - was more a question of when and how than if. I'd want you guys back, ... even Max. After he comes out of being missing. Max I liked you, but you are crap at leading. |

I guess we are going full casual mode. Some people transferred to Auchindoun, a lot of those who didn't, are fed up with queues and lag - so activity is down. It is the way of things . The guild as it stands now is going to be a communication nexus more than a raiding one.
Raiding is now officialy pug based - make a pug, or join a pug - plenty of that going on on Raven at least. I'll be there for support if anyone finds energy within and wishes to jumpstart the raiding part. Until then - the guild is staying casual no-raiding. |

Well, as you guys know, I have stepped back after the migration has been pulled through. And by stepping back, I mean gout out of the daily business of managing the guild. This has been almost half a year ago now . Since I'm still doing the backend (and paying for this site), I can still write up an article here if I wish to - I just might.
Like right now.
But just a short one.
Raven has proven to not be without its faults - 1HOUR QUEUE. AAAARRRGGGGHHHH. Then there is this gearscore craze. People "upgrading" with shit items because they have higher item level. I've seen stupid things. Really stupid things. Can't really say I'm immune to it . My mage is overcapped by 6%, because I cant seem to find gear without hit. Nonsense.
ICC10 is done btw. And we are a bit too small for 25 yet. Well not strictly speaking, if everybody that plays at least a few times a week would sign on at the same time, I'd reckon there would be about 40 people online. Taking the super casual guys into account, I'd say this number would go over 80... Not a small guild.
I have an idea or two I'd like to do here on the web in the next month or so. I'm thinking about adding some custom stuff. Try to add some way to widen the net of article writers - with some sort of editorial process. Let guildies add content. As it is all voulunteer work, it is not going to go fast or be super sleek, but I intend to have a bit of fun/work.
In other not news - I'd still vote to kill off the guild bank. I still don't see much use in it, it tends to cause more trouble than it solves. But then again - this decision isn't mine. |

When I've begun thinking about migration as a way to fix the lack of active players, I never dared hope that guildies would follow in such numbers. First issue is that this is not free, so it would cost money. I know that 20€ is an expensive minimum fee (minimum, because we mostly have more than just 1 character). Second issue is that it bothers me - it really bothers me - that we are paying to fix a problem, that is not ours to fix. So I am still in doubt on whether this was the right thing to do, even if people somehow managed to gather the Blizz ransom fee. There are ways to fix the server population problems, but the way Blizz is going about it is just your proverbial fig leaf. With free migrations - I question the sanity of anyone going from Ravencrest to a dumphole like Mazrigos.
The way to do it is to make achivements, vanity items, useful items or gold rewards for people willing to go fix server population problems... but this is not going to happen - because, Blizz can make money from this. In other words - Blizz has no incentive to fix the problem, because it has proven to be a lucrative business. Transfers cost nothing - we are paying 20€ for an automated process, which costs nothing to execute. My view is that this is worse than gold sellers. The "legitimate" gold sellers have actual people work-play the game to gather resources - it costs actual money to produce. Blizz is profiting from pure nothing. So with all this in mind, thank you all for putting down YOUR money to enable everybody a good start on the new realm.
From the looks of it - and I'm not saying this lightly - Ravencrest has good people playing - not just gear-wise... never been an issue, but personality-wise. Glad I moved. |

And so it begins...
Comming from the seriously defunct server of Mazrigos, I must say it is not hard to get used to trade actually containing chatter. Right now I only really hurt because of the people left behind.
But times look good ahead. If not for else - we are bound to get to know new people. Let's see what happens. |
